Are you looking for something green and tasty for your children to create and drink for St. Paddy's Day? You have come to the right place.

It’s fun for the family to have green-themed food and drink for a St. Patrick’s Day party or meal. Here are a variety of fast, tasty and simple drinks that can be prepared for March 17th festivities.

Shamrock “Shmoothie”

Make a smoothie by blending plain yoghurt with green fruits like kiwis, honeydew melon and green apples. If you can, sneak in green vegetables like spinach to make it even healthier. Add honey or sugar to taste. To put in more vegetables, you can tell your kids that leprechauns live long lives because they drink their special Shamrock Shmoothies filled with lots of vegetables.

St. Paddy’s Shake

Blend together green mint ice cream with milk. Or, if you prefer, use lime sherbet to mix up with milk.

Leprechaun Floating Cloud Float

Get ginger ale and add a little green food coloring into a glass. Then drop in either vanilla ice cream or lime sherbet scoops. If you have a melon baller, you can put three small scoops together on a plate and freeze the scoops together ahead of time to make it look like a clover. Then you could call it the Leprechaun Floating Clover Float.

Leprechaun Limeade

Squeeze limes, and then add water and sugar to taste. If the drink is not green enough for you, you can always add a bit of green food dye.

Leprechaun Juice

Simply add some food coloring to apple juice and stir. Another alternative is to buy those bottled healthy fruit juices that are green because they contain spinach, grass and/or spirulina. If you have big group of people to provide drinks for, you can always go for several green-colored Kool-Aid packets to mix up at home with water.

Green Cups and Drink Garnishes

If you have green cups or glasses that adds to the St. Paddy’s party ambiance. Green napkins and straws are good too. Garnishes can also help set the mood for your drink. You can buy fresh mint and break up sprigs to add on to the top of refreshments or cut up lime wedges to place on to the rim of the glasses.

Another idea is to rim the glass with green sugar. Get some green food coloring and mix it with a little water and then add sugar to make green sugar. Leave time for it to dry. Put it on a plate. Then wet the rim of the glass with a lime and then place the mouth of the glass into the sugar on the plate.

You can also freeze some leprechaun juice in your ice cube tray to make green ice cubes. A fun twist is to freeze green jello into cubes to add to any of the above drinks.

Leprechaun Story Behind the Drink

Remember half the fun is telling the story behind the drink. Tell the kids that leprechauns came in to help specially prepare the drinks by sprinkling in their special leprechaun magic, when they weren't looking or course. You can tell them that drinking leprechaun juice will make them lucky for the day or make them love to eat all things green...like their vegetables.

Enjoy St. Patrick’s Day with these delicious and easy drink ideas from a Shamrock Shmoothie to Leprechaun juice.
