When your child gets interested in cooking in the kitchen, you can often turn to sandwiches. Sandwiches are easy to make and are often nutritious and delicious. Forget about the plain old peanut butter and jelly or ham and cheese. Instead, consider these kid-friendly sandwich recipes for your child.
If your child likes peanut butter and there are no issues with allergies, consider this recipe. All you will need is a tortilla, peanut butter and your kid’s favorite jelly. Lay the tortilla flat and spread the peanut butter on the tortilla. Add the jelly. Roll up and serve, or if you are putting it in your lunchbox, wrap it in foil so that it doesn’t unwrap. Another twist is to omit the jelly and add banana slices.
This is a very easy recipe and almost all kids like it. Place 4 or 5 store bought frozen meatballs on a paper plate and microwave for about 1 minute (or until done). Take a hamburger bun and spread a small amount of pizza sauce on the bun. Place the meatballs on one side of the bun and mozzarella cheese on the other size. Place in the over (or a toaster oven, which is easier for the kids to work) for a few minutes until the cheese has melted. Put the two sides of the bun together.
This tasty sandwich is made just like the meatball sub, but instead of using meatballs use pepperoni.
Grilled cheese is a popular sandwich for kids. If you have different kinds of cheese, then encourage your child to experiment making the sandwiches using more than one kind of cheese. For this sandwich, use your toaster oven instead of a skillet or griddle. Lightly toast two slices of bread. Butter each side and add two or three different kinds of cheese on the bread. Try American, cheddar and mozzarella. You can even sprinkle Parmesan cheese on the outside of the sandwich. Place the two sides together and put in your toaster oven on about 450 degrees until the cheese is melted.
Not all kids are veggie eaters, but if you have one, then try a salad sandwich. Have your kids prepare a salad however they like it. This can include lettuce, shredded carrots, sliced tomatoes and bacon bits. Stir in favorite dressing and place the salad into a pocket pita. If your child will take this in his or her lunch, then serve the dressing on the side.
