It's Christmas Eve. Distract children and family members away from the awaiting presents and into the kitchen. Enjoy making and eating pizza themed dishes and desserts.
For many, holidays are more about togetherness and not so much about the presents. However, for most children, it's all about the gifts. Distract children on Christmas Eve by creating a fun new tradition. Have a family pizza party. Create a whole theme around pizza. This is going to be a fun night with everything revolving around the pizza theme. They'll be no refusals of salad tonight. All of these recipes are kid friendly. Let children help make each creative dish. Start the night off with a snack. Triscuit pizzas are an easy, healthy and nutritious snack that will satisfy hungry adults as well. While the family is enjoying the snack, toss a fun salad. Pepperoni Pizza Salad Ingredients needed include:
In a large bowl, combine the tomatoes and fresh salad greens with the green peppers, cheese, pepperoni, olives and onion. Pour sauce over salad mixture and toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate for several hours. Just before serving, sprinkle with croutons and Parmesan cheese. Christmas Pizza RecipesMaking pizza at home can be quick and easy. Buy a ready made pizza crust at the grocery store or ask for balls of fresh dough from a local pizzeria to make things simpler. This Christmas pizza recipe features a tree shape in the center of the pizza. Dough can be pre-cut in a tree shape for another unique variation of Christmas tree pizza. Ingredients needed are:
Heat half the jar of sauce in a saucepan over medium heat. Refrigerate the leftover sauce. While the sauce is simmering, place one tablespoon olive oil in a frying pan. Heat over low heat for 2 minutes. Add the broccoli or spinach. Sprinkle the vegetable with the garlic salt. Cover the pan and saute the greens at medium heat until tender, about 10 minutes. Broccoli should be tender enough to easily stick a fork in it. If broccoli is used, let it cool after sauteing and then slice the larger florets in half so that they lay flat. Next, lightly saute the green, yellow and red pepper slices over medium heat until tender, about 5 to 8 minutes. Carefully spread some of the warm sauce over the top of the pizza crust. Don't put too much sauce on it, or the pizza will be soggy. Spread the sauce around so that it is evenly smooth on top of the pie. Top with grated cheese. Most of the sauce should be covered by cheese, but its okay if a little sauce peeks through. To decorate the pizza, place the broccoli florets or spinach in the shape of a Christmas tree in the middle of the round pizza. Take the green, red and yellow pepper slices and use them to outline the Christmas tree Place the pepperoni slices on the tree as if they were Christmas lights. Bake the Christmas Pizza at 425° for 10 to 12 minutes or until the cheese is bubbling and lightly brown. Let cool for 5 minutes before slicing. White Christmas PizzaIt may not be snowing, but that doesn't mean the family can't enjoy a white Christmas. Serve this with peppermint or eggnog ice cream to complete the holiday dessert pizza. Ingredients needed are:
Melt chocolate with 14 ounce almond bark in large saucepan on low heat, stir until smooth. Remove from heat. Stir in marshmallows and cereal. Pour into greased 12 inch pizza pan. Top with cherries. Melt remaining almond bark with oil over low heat. Stir until smooth and drizzle over this decadent dessert pizza. Chill. Cut and serve. Pizza Themed Games and ActivitiesKeep the pizza theme going with fun family games. If fresh dough is used, have a dough tossing contest. Purchase a few unfolded pizza boxes from the local pizzeria and have a pizza box folding race to see which family member can fold boxes the fastest. Family Pizza NightEnjoy preparing dinner together. Let this be a new tradition that will be enjoyed year after year. Make it memorable. HOL101
